Waupoos is one of the County’s most eastern communities and is located between Smith’s Bay on Lake Ontario and Cape Vessey.

Just a short drive from Picton, Waupoos is the birthplace of PEC’s wine industry, with the area’s first winery (Waupoos Estate Winery) opening here in 2000. Overlooking Lake Ontario, Waupoos Estate Winery features a tasting bar as well as a beautiful patio restaurant–it’s easy to see why this is a popular venue for weddings and events. Other area wineries worth a visit: Del-Gatto Estates, Cape Vineyards and the Devil’s Wishbone Winery.

Locals consider Waupoos apple country, so expect to see plenty of orchards and visit some of Ontario’s best cideries: The County Cider Co, Clafeld Fruit Winery and Cider House (with a licensed patio overlooking the lake).

Waupoos is a paradise for foodies, with local farmer’s markets, pick-your-own blueberries (at the Blueberry Patch or Little Highbush), the Cressy Mustard Co. and the Fifth Town Cheese Co, a handmade cheese producer specializing in goat and buffalo milk cheeses (try the Cape Vessey….)

The County’s annual Maple Festival in March is a must-do event, with official festival events taking place in many of Waupoos’ sugarshacks. Feast on a pancake breakfast, tour a sugarshack and get your fill of maple syrup.

In the summer months, take in an outdoor concert at the Waupoos Park.

Real Estate in Waupoos

You can buy a house or cottage in the Waupoos area for a relatively good price. You’ll find a mix of farmhouses (at various stages of repair/disrepair) and cottage-like waterfront properties starting in the 400’s.

Waupoos is further from Toronto than many of the other areas, so plan on a longer commute if this is a second home….but you’ll get better value for your money.  Also beware: the lake effect snow can be a pain.
