Established in 1823, Hillier is one of Prince Edward County’s smallest communities, with just 100 registered residents. Located on the Loyalist Parkway (highway 33), it’s 30 minutes from Picton and Belleville, but just a short bike ride away from the restaurants, shops and beaches in Wellington.

Make no mistake about it…what Hillier lacks in population size, it makes up for in winery awesomeness. Hillier is ground-zero for the County’s wine scene including: Closson Chase, Grange of Prince Edward, Stanners Vineyard, Trail Estate Winery, Broken Stone Winery, Gravel Hill Vineyards, Harwood Estates Vineyards, Hillier Creek Estates, Hinterland Wine Company (the sparkling!), Lacey Estates, Sugarbush Vineyards, Domaine Darius and the Traynor Family Vineyard.

Hillier is also home to the PEC Lavender Festival, a 2-day celebration of lavender, held each year in July, at the Prince Edward County Lavender farm.

Shed Chetwyn Farms is certainly worth a stop to check out their selection of locally spun yarns and alpaca goods. The best part? The alpacas are grazing onsite! Shed Chetwyn Farms is a modern take on farming…and who doesn’t like alpacas?

Real Estate in Hillier

Real estate options in Hillier, Prince Edward County, are mostly large parcels of land and farmhouses. It’s a hot area because of its proximity to Wellington, so house prices are at a premium, usually starting in the low $400’s and going up into the millions.

There are lots of high-end newly built homes for people with generous budgets and it’s a popular place for modern infill developments.

Of note:

There are some gorgeous luxury homes on County Road 33, near Pleasant Bay. Looking to build your dream home? Lots here sell for $450,000-600,000 for a few acres.

There’s a sexy pocket of houses on Hikes Bay Road too that rarely come up for sale.
